The Couture Process
Your gown begins as an idea, and becomes
something entirely your own.
At Shehzarin Batha, bespoke couture is a carefully crafted, personal journey. Each gown is designed and made entirely in our Melbourne atelier, where every decision, from silhouette to finish, reflects your vision and the expertise of true couture technique.
STEP ONE: CONSULTATION & CONCEPT
Your journey starts with an in‑studio couture consultation. Here, we take time to understand you: your wedding plans, your style references, the moments you want your gown to hold.
Together, we explore silhouettes, fabrics and foundational design ideas. This is where your bespoke gown begins to take shape on the page and in our minds.
STEP TWO: DESIGN & SKETCHING
Once we’ve captured the essence of your vision, we begin your custom design. Every line, proportion and detail is considered. You’ll see your ideas translated into a sketch that feels unmistakably yours.
STEP THREE: PATTERN & TOILE
Your gown is then drafted in a cotton canvas to test the pattern on your body and make any necessary adjustments. This is known as the “toile”, and is an essential step in the process of creating a couture gown. At this stage, any design changes can be finalized and the process can begin in earnest.
STEP FOUR: CONSTRUCTION & FITTINGS
Using traditional couture methodology, alongside our passion for invention, your gown will be cut, sewn and prepared within our High St boutique. When first you see it, the gown will be approximately 75% complete. At this point, the fit will be thoroughly checked and any edits will be noted. At the final fitting, the gown will be 99% complete, with zipper installed and all layers hand-finished. Any remaining edits will be made after this fitting, and the final pickup arrangements will be made.
STEP FIVE: FINAL DETAILS & COLLECTION
At the final pickup, the gown is freshly pressed, carefully packed with tissue and with a supportive cushion to protect the bodice structure. From purchase to final delivery, every detail is taken care of to ensure your wedding gown is the picture of perfection when you see her for the first time on your special day.
BEGIN YOUR BESPOKE JOURNEY
A bespoke gown isn’t just worn, it becomes part of the memory of your day. It’s a moment realised in material and form, shaped around your individuality and story, and designed to honour the person you are. This is couture in its truest sense: personalised, refined, and built without compromise.
